Description

The Blue Rhino Overdrive is a modified Ram’s Head-style pedal with hand-picked mystery diodes, which provide for some  unique clipping options never before heard from this fuzzy overdriver and its brethren! Its brutality can be tamed or unleashed, either way it sounds awesome on both bass and guitar alike, adding tons of sustain and volume, as well as plenty of tonal options to your instrument’s sound.

The controls are all similar to the classic BMP setup—Volume, Distortion, and Tone. The three-way mod switch gives you three options for the diodes in the clipping section, each hand-picked and tested to help your bass or guitar kick your amp’s ass.

When the switch is up, it activates the soft-clipping Germanium diodes (marked with a blue band—which is 50% of the inspiration for the name Blue Rhino Overdrive). These diodes clip relatively smoothly, making for a very nice low-gain overdrive to complement the Ram’s Head’s flexible tone stack.

When the switch is down, the mystery diodes are activated. They are marked 290-6 and are spherical, but they clip beautifully, in the vain of silicon diodes, but a bit different than any Big Muff variant I can recall, a bit crunchier and slightly more compressed.

And because we can, the middle setting on the switch gives us zero clipping diodes for a beastly, dark, and loud-as-all-hell option. I’m looking at you, bassists. This has been called the “Jumbo Tonebender” mod.

All of this in a beautiful, simple, minimal finish, as part of my New Years resolution to make more budget pedals available to the masses. And for you DIYers who want to build your own—check out the Lemon Haze project!

Warranty

Each Carcharias Effects pedal is hand-made by one person in his home workshop who loves making music, and making things that make music. Every purchase you make enables me to continue making more pedals, so your support is very much appreciated. That said, I take responsibility for the build quality of every pedal I make comes, and offer a 24-month warranty on each one, not covering normal wear-and-tear or abuse.

All the PCBs that I sell on this site were designed personally by me, but the fabrication is outsourced to third-party PCB fabrication services. Once they are designed, I order them in relatively small batches. I personally test every batch that I receive; however, as I am a strong believer in minimizing waste, there are cases in which I may sell perfectly functioning PCBs that might have some design flaw. I take responsibility for these design flaws (if any) and will specify their fixes or workarounds in the product's specific build document.

If you should encounter any issues with your product, please feel free to reach out to me via the contact form on this website. As I am based in Israel, I understand the inconvenience added by international shipping, and so I will be happy to assist in troubleshooting with you any problems before resorting to international shipping in case a repair needs to be made.
